Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

I found this one to be VERY difficult. There were 4 orphans - so that was difficult as well. I ended up guessing. Any tips?

Yes Kathy, I also thought this one to be very hard for a medium, and don't know what to do about 4 orphans.

for the 15-sum across at the bottom, you can limit 1 and 3 to two spots, and limit and 5 to two spots.

oops, I meant 4 and 5

I understand what you mean about the 1&3 and the 4&5 -- but, I don't know how you come to that conclusion. How are you deciding to remove the 2 from the 9 sum down and the 2 from the 10 sum down on the 15 sum across at the bottom?

Ok - I figured out how to get down to 4/5 on teh 15-sum across. Sometimes I'm very thick-headed! :)
thanks

I understood the 4/5, but how did you eliminate a 2?

4:39 Something to keep in mind is that the puzzlemaker usually uses the 2&3&4 combination for 9 over three squares. I tried the 1&3&5 combination both ways first, just to eliminate them, and of course they didn't work, so it was back to 2&3&4, which did work.
