How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Kakuro.cc has been around since 2006, and was my (Gath Adams) second puzzle
site after sudoku.com.au. The site began with just the puzzles, and a community
was added a few months later.
Kakuros can be difficult to create, as there are extra constraints on what
makes a valid board, as well as not using the numbers twice etc. If you are
interested in the algorithms behind kakuro creation, then a good kakuro
construction resource can be found
here.
As well as a few puzzles sites, I have also built I Want That Flight which helps you find the cheapest flights (concentrating on Australia). I also have NetLaw which is a debt-collection interest rate calculator (useful for lawyers in Australia).
