Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
needed a trial and error

Not that bad, interesting.

had another go, used orphans, got 12 cells on right hand side, then stuck without trial and error. There's some play between 25D and 31D depending on the status of 3A, but it's too long for my brain to hold all at once

Agree completely with Chris. Got 12 cells and stuck after working on it for a long time. I feel there is a logical solution, but I cannot find it.

After 12 cells, with orphans, the logical solution is the chain of 9 and 8

Used orphans and found all the right side then tried something with 25 down, didn't work so tried different also with 25 down and went all the way.

If you isolate A&J, you can do an elimination in 12A to get a logic answer.

Good tip Charles. I tried that approach and it worked.

Takes a bit of study, and the orphans. Ultimately, either D or E must be 5, and one of them leads to a contradiction.
