Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Wow! Very tricky one, today. Used quad orphans, then still had a lot of work to do. [Hint: Show (using brief chain) that Z != 3, then concentrate on combinations in bottom half of 22D & 21D columns.] Very challenging.

this was difficult and I can't remember exactly what I did before I gave up, but there's a nice pattern that resolves the 6 and 7 in 21D and 22D. You can show a 6 and a 7 have to be in the intersection 22A and 11A, hence the 23A is a 123458 and the 8 is on the orphan. Then I got stuck.

holy crap that was hard. So many mental chains used to slowly eliminate all the possibilities. Anything under 20 minutes is quick for this puzzle.

No orphans, 2 chains to find out where the 7 and 5 were in 22D.

Once I found the right chain, I could have done it mentally (in retrospect) - then fairly straight forward

Spoiler alert....

Use mental chain to eliminate one of the two possibilities for 11A (Y,Z)

Correction to last message - 11A is (X,Y)

Orphans. Then chains. Long time. Tough puzzle.

Great puzzle. No orphans, just eliminations. X & Y have to be one of two combinations. Used that to find possible comibinations for 22A that left usable numbers for 23A. Very nice.

No orphans, not as difficult as the conversation would lead one to expect.
