Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Again easy without orphans

I've noticed (or believe I've noticed) that when you're making 18 over five squares in these puzzles, it virtually never takes the form 1,2,4,5,6.

I wonder whether A) there is something about kakuros in general (or kakuros of about this size and shape) that makes this pattern extremely More...

willo, seems that the first conformation is usually the one (12348 for example). Possibly the software tries generating the puzzle conformations in simple order 12348 12357 12456?

No orphans but work. I'm with Chris on this one. Dave, I'm amazed at how much you can keep in your head to avoid entering possibilities. I couldn't get there with this one. Great dog picture!

Here's a story for Paul. The local grocery store sells bulk foods. One day there were no pens with which to note the bin number on the tag, so I just cached the number in short-term memory, and told the check-out clerk what the number was.

She was amazed that anyone could remember a five-digit number for five minutes. I shrugged, 'Would you believe that I'm an engineer?'
