Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Beautiful puzzle. Needed orphans, but no chains. Did take a lot of work to narrow down possibilities. [One hint: Orphans combo used in restricting other values in columns --- unusual, but very helpful.]

Reading Karl's comment I thought this was going to be difficult, but found it quite easy and didn't need orphans.

Re yesterday's chats, I agree a chain is not a chain if you can do it in your head.

A technique I use quite often is to write out all possible number combinations. More...

Takes a couple minutes to find the starting point. I agree w/Chris. No orphans required and will stop calling a mental chain a chain.

Well, you are all cleverer than me. I really struggled and had to take a few guesses.

Agree with Chris and Joe. No orphans or trials. Good puzzle. Fun eliminations.

Stumped me w/o orphans. Will try again later.

Fun puzzle w/o orphans. Chains have always been mental for me. Filling in squares at random is just guessing. I would distinguish between chains and pure logic though.
