Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
trial and error chain needed (for me anyway)

Me too. Orphans don't help.

Not too bad - I got 8 numbers, and then noticed there were just two possibilities for (BCXY) and one leads to a contridiction without too much work (I did it without using the undo).

I agree. You can get 8 numbers, after which trial and error is required. I'm not interested in that kind of solution.

Steve's go it. Either B or X must be a 6. This constrains C and Y to share a 5 and 9. The following logically-obtained solution does not need orphans.

Ross is right. Nice logical solution, not trial and error. Actually a very good puzzle

Nice Puzzle, No Orphans. Similar to above Logic from 6.

I used orphans.
After getting the initial numbers, you can show that W has to be a 3. That makes D a 3 as well.
From then on it gets easier.

858, used orphans but think they were unnecessary

I see how B or X=6, but how is it demonstrated that C=9 & Y=5 or vice versa??

... (given the 8 numbers I assume match you guys')

duh - I plugged in both 6's and lo & behold, a 5 went with it in both squares!

Kudos to Steve and Ross regarding BCXY. In turn, this narrows the possibilities for PTU (even without orphans).

No orphans needed, as Ross said 6s force 5&9 in 24D, really nice puzzle with some good combinations, 2018

Orphans have to be 33. Otherwise 21D and 24D would contain 3 spots with 3, thats a contradiction
