Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

ok, real difficult but made some progress but then got stuck in the complexity, maybe someone else can try ....

filled in all possibilities except for the four cells formed by cross of 24D, 25D and 32A and 24A.

tried setting up a matrix of these cells with either 234 or 56789 as the More...

Since it seems hard to everyone, I looked at the orphans right away. By my addition the Downs added up to 126 and the Across-es added to 127. That would mean squares B and Y would add up to 1! That's not possible so maybe the puzzle is impossible?

more .... the 6789 possibility in the 32A/25D cross eliminates itself. Splitting the remaining 2345 possibility into 234 and 5 ....

Oh, yea: The Across-es total 137 so B+Y=11 so it is
possible (just look at the answer!).

7 & 9 can be eliminated from the 3rd, 4th, & 6th squares of 25D for starters.

Chris, what about a 6 in 32A/25D?? Have you already eliminated 5 from the square above that 1?

I spent almost 35 minutes on the guess J=5 (1 of 2 places for it in 35A). I went another level or 2 More...

... and of course J=5 shoulda worked; I think I meant J=M

I must have made a mistake - this was preety easy once I looked the possible ways to keep 24D and 25D 'small enough' simultaneously, I could only come up with 32A being 5 or 6 in Q (not N) and then W had to be at least 5 (after checking out the possibilities for less than 5). If this logic is sound (it did take some thinking) then the rest was easy.

Found the mistake - I think I mis-clicked so that '6' was missing as a possibility in K, O (of 30D) which made the problem much easier. However, I did redo the problem the right way with one medium logic chain to remove 7 as a possibility in N, then the earlier logic worked

Took a loooong time. Finally tried a chain on 32A and guessed right. Finished with logic from there. Used orphans.

J or M =5. Tried to prove one false. Failed. Tried J=5. It worked. Will try again with M=5 to prove the negative and 'solve' the puzzle.
free kakuro puzzles | online kakuro puzzles
I disproved M=5 and solved the puzzle, but it was too long of a chain to do in my head and I had to 'cheat' by filling in the numbers until the solution failed. Brutal puzzle.

In this puzzle, the sum numbers are unique except for 3 and 24. Does everyone think it would be easier to refer to only the 24A and 24D with 2 digits and A or D? Or does the A or D help clarify what the (sometimes 1- or) 2- digit number means? By the way, I think using A-Z notation for the More...
