Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Another easy without using possibilities - but I did stop to think a little early on.

Can someone explain to me what 'without possibilities' means? Since the solution of the puzzle requires evaluating the possibility of number satisfying the cross sums, it would seem to me that 'without possibilities' would mean that the number could be derived looking at only the one square with disregard of the cross sum.

Orb: Without possibilities just means solving the puzzle without checking the 'This number is a possibility box' that allows you to see more than one possiblity in a box (or writing out the possibilities on papaer). I still use logic to deduce the only possible solution. Its just a way to make an easy puzzle more challenging

Easy; orphans not needed. Steve and Orb, you may be correct but I was interpreting 'without possibilities' differently. I assume it means solving the puzzle with straight logic without having to make a trial guess at the value of a square and then pursing the 'possibilities' to see whether that More...

This was a fun one. Straight-forward, but took a little brain-scratching in a couple spots. Either that or I'm REALLY rusty.

Mike - UrBuddie (haven't heard from him in a while) used to describe your process as using 'extended logic'. I think I just made up the 'without possibilities' phrase to differentiate ones that I could solve without seeing the actual possibilities displayed. It may be a random criteria, but the More...

I think I read somewhere that candidates was the standard term for what I now understand most you call possibilities. Until now I thought possibilities, extended logic, and chains were equivalent. Do I have a consensus on these terms?:

possibilities = candidates
chains = extended More...

Straightforward with a bit of work, how many 12 pairs can fit in one puzzle :-) I always thought 'possibilities' was using thechechkbox as that is the term used for the checkbox, 2019
