Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
I'm not sure that I would call it straightforward, but by using the quad-orphans, it was fairly easy. That's my first time to use those effectively.

I wasn't sure if I would need them or not. But when I saw the opportunity to use the quad orphans, I wanted to try what you guys taught me last week. I was able to apply the logic correctly, so it was a good test for me.

Bob,

Cell naming: These 'hard' puzzles always have 26 cells, so someone suggested naming each cell A-Z starting in the top left.

Orphan: A cell that it missing a clue to it. In this puzzle they orphans are J,M,N,Q. When there are only 2 orphans, it is easier to use them. Without More...

a lesson I learned not too long ago is that when you have pairs (or even more groups of numbers) have the same number(s) in them, those numbers cannot go in the other rows or columns in those lines - in this puzzle, the 7s in the 16D and 13D eliminate the 7s in the other columns of those 2 rows

... and my thanks to those of you who took the time to teach me that important tool

interesting observation I just made during the redo:
after you've gotten 14A & 7D in the lower right, you know where the 9 goes in the top row
