Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Tricky but doable with orphans

Used a guess to find the 4 in 22 down and then everything fell into place

Not too bad.
Shabbir +1 except that you need not guess. Note that, as 4 other cells in 27D are <=5, that the other two (G & V; i.e., 2nd and 6th) must be >=6. So, J (in 22D) must be 4 (i.e., no guessing).

Oops. Scratch my earlier comment. Somehow I hadn't allowed for possibility of I=4. Can show that this can't be so by using a chain --- but then I've had to guess (trial and error).

there are only 2 possibilities in cell I.Choose the right one and go all the way

Brutal, but doable

Terrible puzzle. Can't be solved with logic, and guessing is not solving.

Have to guess, therefore not interested.

Karl, Your comment made it doable - I = 4 leads to a condridiction that takes some thought, but could be done in my head (if I had thought clearly the first time)

I did half the puzzle and over 2:30 eliminating 4 from I - probably not a chain many can do in their head!
