Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Tricky... I found a somewhat satisfactory logic solution.

SPOILER ALERT! Here is the idea: there are some easy 9s and 8s (using orphans). After that you notice that both 22 row and 25 row have to contain 123, and two of them come from colums 14 and 6. The other row has the third (of these More...

yup, Yoman, brilliant! Rephrasing ....
22A and 25A must each contain 123, so we need six 123 cells between these two.

14D provides two 123 cells
6D provides another two
28D provides one

and 35D must contain at least one 3 (or 2 or 1)

therefore 10D contains no 123s
and so 10D = 145

there's a 5s cross now between 10D and 28D and easy from there ...

Exactly, Chris...

I found it easy after I restarted and added the orphans correctly. One string to remove one of the 2 4s in the 22A made everything fall into place.

Agree with Joe - fairly straightforward once I worked out where the 4 in 22A had to go.

the 4 can only go in 2 cells in 22A
the right choice goes all the way

(which Angelo already noted!)
(that's after placing 7 8s and 9s using orphans)
I found this a very tough puzzle - was checking out Yoman's idea when I saw this. It took me forever to confirm that 25A had to contain 123 - there must be a 6 or a 7 to go with the 8 (and that requires 1234/1245) More...

(I had to go to my saved puzzle to demonstrate what you guys no doubt saw in your heads - why 25A/35D must be 4 or more!)

(trying the 4 in the wrong spot in 22A busts pretty quickly)

Don't like trial & error, but Big John is right, the wrong 4 busts quickly, 2018
