Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Greg: I don't know about the others, but I HAD to make a guess. I got lucky and so I got a good time. When I went back and tried to use logic only, I couldn't do it. So, to answer your question, there isn't really anything you could do to get a great time.

Having said that: if anyone can prove this one logically, I'd love to see it!

16:07 I did it logically, with no guesses, but it took a long time and I couldn't tell you exactly how.

One really tricky part was knowing that you need at least one 8 and one 9 in the four squares at the lower right. Combined with the 17 in lower left means no 8's or 9's anywhere else. More...

No ophans seemed to make this one harder. Had to 'guess' or use what they call a forcing chain, I think, where you put in one possibility and play it out to see if that is correct, and if not, use the alternative!!

hard, can't use columns-rows trick.

This was hard. I got as far as what Kevin described, but got stuck and had to use some extended logic for an elimination.

Mildly challenging; no chains (i.e., no guessing) required. SPOILER: main 'trick' is noticing that first three rows must all have a 9 and that these will occur in the first three columns. So, last three cells of 37D cannot be 9. Straightforward after that.

1) Fill in M.

2) 2 or 3 must be in H. Therefore H+I at most 5.

3) E at least 5 so J at most 6. (Also at least 4)

4) Therefore no 7 in 25A

5) From 2),3),4), 25A has a 9 (otherwise get at most 8+6+5+5=24, not enough)
