Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Here is my general approach - I won't be able to read comments for at least 4 hours, then possibly post additional details (unless someone found a simpler approach):

1. Identified lowest in one column (determines what 33A contains).

2. +c (One chain solved a cross in 39D/36D).

3. 'Counting method' of 'high cells' (rows vs. columns) was my break through for rest of puzzle.

After 21 minutes, I have a 'proof' that there is no solution --- and little inclination to go back and find my error.

-p-o. Not claiming nada because of two false starts. Finally realized that there is only room for one 4 in 39D and 36D, which tells you 36D must have a 1, and I is the only place it can be. Then the need for a second 5 in 39D/36D tells you the solution for 33A. Then various crosses help solve it.

Joe + 1. Finally solved it, after several chains.

+p+c+Count because I couldn't follow Mike's hints:
1. I<=3 (to solve its row). 33A contains 45789.
2. Chain proves 15D not 69 (solves 3 9s in bottom 3 rows, top 3 rows require 9s including 49 in 22A but can't have 2 9s in 31A).
3. Count 789s (rows vs. columns). Solve 22A, then rest of puzzle.
