Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Orphans and possibilities. Easy after orphans used.

No orphans - work out what the first cell of 6D must be.

Couldn't work it out with Chris's advice. Used the orphans, which was a bit of a cheat with this puzzle.

Joe, note 25D must contain a 1.
if cell one of 6D=1 then 2's X and 1's X in 15A and 13A.
Some 45's are eliminated in 20A, so 13A can't have a 67 nor then a 2. The Southern Hemisphere then breaks coz it needed the 2. So, cell one of 6D=2 and then not too difficult ....

Chris is currently in Gerona, Catalonia where at least the hotel wifi works contrary to home internet which has been out for three weeks with a promise to fix it by December 14th.

Easy with orphans. But Could not see how to do it without orphans.

C'mon, it's easy. if 6D starts with a 1 then 2's X in bottom two rows means 13A=67 solution. 20A must use 6789 in final cell, so 33D is the xx6789 solution - which is not possible.

poss but no orphans, w/o Chris' advice. Working out the 1's in the last three rows proves T cannot be 1, which limits the choices for 33D

if using orphans, no possibilities. Thanks to Chris' hints, here is my 'no orphan' approach:
1. Solve 12D.
2. if P>=6 or X>=6: can't solve 25D
3. if O=1: 2's X and 1's X in 15A and 13A, so X can't be 5 and Y must be 6 or 7. Can't solve regardless of Q:
a) if Q>=6: can't More...

+p, thanks to the 'triple cross' of 1 and Chris' hint. If 6D starts with a 1, then 33D contains 4 cells with 6789, which forces us to add 12 to it, but 33D cant have a 1, thus 6 doesnt start with a 1.
