Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Orphans needed. Plus Once it is proved I and K cannot both be 4. Then full logic to finish

Agree, orphans needed. Wasn't sure about Terry's explanation, but I solved it by looking at G,H,W,X - in short, all roads lead to the same answer for S,T... then it all flows from there

Think it requires a little trial and error but the obvious guess is correct.

Tried it again, and it does work with orphans and then pure logic... looking at 21D, 6 can only be at G or W (after answering the question posed by C). Looking carefully at 18A and 14A, this also means that, in 39D, 5 can only be at H or X. Then, like I said, it all falls into place.

I eliminated numbers that could only go in 2 squares in the 2 middle columns and took over 20 minutes!

No orphans:
1. D=9 and V=3
2. If X=8:
a) If H=7: non-unique
b) If L=7: can't solve 21D
3. Solve 6 in 21D, then rest of puzzle was easy
