Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
K!=3 else there's an illegal 12 quad to the right, but still needed orphans later

For me orphans were useless.I just made one choice between the 5 and 6 on 25 down in the top row.You make the wrong choice,you only find out at the end.You make the good choice,you go all the way.

took another look, it is possible by logic ...

do the 31D eliminations
K!=3 as above
which gives 8 cells on the LHS
find C and then use orphans to find X
the final 25 cells in 15A fall into place by interference with 13A

and then it's plain sailing. Good puzzle

13+, but all logic w/orphans. Need to rightmost cell on 10A

Seemed easy at first, but the end was a bit tricky. Had to use orphans, and even then there are difficulties, though no need to guess

Can be solved with no orphans; all logic.

Use orphans AND chains first time. Second try without orphans still took forever!

Where's the 'illegal quad to the right'?, in the 25 down?? I know what A & D refer to, but what about all the other letters? I'd recognize X & Y, but why be so / too mathematical?!

to big John:

the illegal quad is formed by 12 possibilities in HI and LM. It's illegal because it gives a non-unique solution.

LHS = left hand side
