Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
I'm very, very stuck. If anyone wants to leave any clues, that would be great.

The key square is K. Easy to show K = 8 or 9
If K = 8 C<>6, so F or V = 6 and E or U = 5
Then O = 4 or 6 removes the other 4's from 12A, so H = 4. This quickly forces a contradiction on 16A. So K = 9, and the rest is easy.

How can C be a 6? The total is only a 5???? I'm confused.

Oops, I meant B<>6

For some reason, I don't see a quick contradiction on 16A. I finally contradict on 10a. And I think we disagree on the term, but this is what I call a guess. I much more prefer the puzzles when things can be figured out cleaner or more logically.

But, I do thank for taking the time to explain your solution.

Thanks.

orphans not needed maybe. L=4 (one of the 17A=12347, the other=12356, think about it!). Slowly falls out with more similar eliminations across 39D and 21D. Good puzzle. I did use orphans at the end (after solve 5 cells, but that might have been lazy)
