Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

nada, not quite, but almost, maybe it is ...
after first six easy ones ...
27A has at least two of 6789, which locates the 7 in 22A and the 6 in 39D.
27A=xxx456x, 45 pair at end of 22A and 15D!=xxx9 and 27A must have a 3, solves.

Aspie: Try as I might, I don't see six easy ones (unless you use orphans, as I did).

Wilo, yes after DEFG I used unique rule:
1. KQ is 12 pair, so HN is not
2. HN must be 23 pair (solves AB)

Willo, yes, solves 10A. I allow unique rule if no other way to make progress.
Uniqueness is a rule of the creation process. At its most simple, Puzzle creator makes a grid, randomly populates it (well no same number in row or column) calculates the Across and Down sums, and then sets out to More...

Nada, but very tough. I used the unique rule early to conclude that B=9. Aspie, I see no reason to make uniqueness a last resort. It's as true and valuable as using crosses and all the other little tricks we have.

To me, the implicit challenge of these puzzles is to find **all** solutions, not **a** solution. It's clear that the solutions are all unique, but I take that to be a quirk of the puzzle-setter, similar to a quirk where the bottom right entry is always a 7. I prefer not to take advantage of that quirk. To each his/her own, of course.

I have seen too many published Kakuro/Sudoku puzzles, even those with cash prizes, with multiple solutions. Assuming a unique solution is the same as guessing. You have to be lucky that the programmer that generated the puzzle knew what they were doing. Just because all the puzzles you have seen on this web-site so far have a unique solution is not proof that all of them are unique.

I must have made a mistake or assumption somewhere? I found this one straightforward with a bit of thought, no uniqueness or orphans needed?
