Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Anyone with clues for yesterdays?

Easy one today, but it was still fun. A little twist on the orphans.

UR - hints from yesterday - show O = 1 or 2. I had A=1, L=9, Z=1. In 18e row, G=7,8, H=4,5. Also in 21c column, HMP >= 3, Thus O=1,2 (or else C,Y = 1,2 --> X,B,G all are 7 or 8). Next if M=6, then E,F=3 (No!), so M = 4,5 and rest is straight forward.

Today -did not use More...

Steve - I'm confused. How do you get that O=1,2? I also have A,L,Z. But then you state that HMP>=3, but P is not part of 21 down.

UR - Sorry about the typo - it should be HMT >= 3 (I had H=4,5, M=4,5,6 [6 later rejected] and T=3,4,5 [since R,U = 1,2]). Since 1 and 2 must both be in column 21 (and they can't both be in C,Y) then O must be 1 or 2. Sorry about the confusion.

Arrrgh. I had a math error. Now I've got it. The C,Y = 1,2 is the key, but I wasn't getting there because I can't add!!!

Thanks for the help and the patience!

i followed the logic up until 1 and 2 can't both be in C, Y. what's the quickest way to explain why that is the case?

4:45 Interesting puzzle.

jason - (My explainations are not that quick) - but as stated, G = 7,8. If both C,Y = 1,2, then X must be 8, and B can only be 7,8 (BGX all 7,8 which is impossible), so O = 1,2.
