Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

7 cells without possibilities, then, either no orphans and an irritating little chain the end, or with orphans, without possibilities and it all falls out.

Easy with orphans

good end w/out orphans

This is one of the coolest solutions I can remember. I and R can't both be 3's because there wouldn't be enough 3's left to satisfy 10D and 24D. I & R can't both be 4's because 10D (KOTX) would be without a 4. Thus you have 'hidden' quad 4's in IKOR. Thus D=4, Z=5. This leaves 'hidden quad 3's in IMQR which makes C=3. Solves after that.

Great hints, me from here. The only comment I have is the terminology. Based on other puzzles, I inferred 'quads' was shorthand for four orphans.

When a value must be in one of two cells in one row and the same value must be in one of two cells in the same columns in another row, I have More...

Regarding terminology...I make it up as I go trying to be clear as possible with minimum effort :D

I like magic square though.

I worked it again (and took 10:21 cuz I didn't use orphans and forgot that the 6 in 16A was a given ...)
This is a very cool puzzle. Thanks for your analysis, me

I agree with me and Chris' comment.
I guess I haven't improved much in the last year, possibly even stagnating - you folks are (mostly) downright impressive !
