I had to make a guess to complete it. I was able to get all the possibilities filled in, including the orphans. 28d is solved, part of 27d and 15d are solved. How do you proceed from there without guessing? If anyone wants to drop a hint, I'll check back later.

Look at 27 across: contains a 3 and 4 plus a 1 or 2 and three numbers all >=5. So it must contain a 6. This eliminates a lot of possibilities in other cells and from there it is easy to finish.

I got to about the same point as you, and I had figured out that the last three boxes in 27a must contain 567 or 568. I did not see the importance of this until I looked more closely at 38a. Of course, there is no 6 in 29d, so the 6s will be either 27a/35d and 38a/30d or 27a/30d and 38a/35d. You can eliminate 6s from the rest of 35d and 30d - yep, easy to finish.

over 12 minutes even with only 1 (correct) guess, a pair of 5s in 4 adjacent squares
