Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Not difficult, but I could not find a logic solution without using orphans. I had all but 13 squares filled in, the bottom of the puzzle complete but the second row nothing but possibilities, and could not prove whether J was 4, 5 or 6 without orphans. What's the secret, Chris?

Cell J cannot equal 4 because 33D must have a 1 (to accommodate the two 6A's). Ruling out J=5 not so obvious ... took a few what-ifs in my head to show that J must = 6.

Mike, at 13 squares filled in you should/might? have possibilities for the the first 6A at 123 123 23 and the second 6A at 3 12 12

In the first 6A there must be a 3 in the first two cells else there's a

non-unique solution. Therefore M=2 and it all falls into place

Filled the bottom and part of the top then used orphans to figure out 37 across then the rest was easy.

you're good, Chris. I have used the unique solution approach a few times before, but it didn't dawn on me this time. I realized that the 2 6A's were crucial and my 1st guess worked
