Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

I used possibilities, but Chris is right.

Speaking of nonp ('no orphans no possibilities'), I explained my nonp approach for the 6/18/14 hard puzzle.

Just curious how other people count these things: If you try a possibility and discover at 1:00 that it works, then try the alternative possibility and prove at 2:00 that the alternative is impossible, then go back and fill in the solution you discovered earlier so you get the picture at 2:30, do you report your time as 2:00 or 2:30 (or something else)?

Shabbir +4. Willo, you count your time by starting the timer when you start working on the puzzle, and you stop the timer when you solve it and the photo appears.

Mike: Yes, that's what I do. But I think there's an argument to be made that once you've discovered the correct solution and ruled out all the alternatives, that's when you've solved the puzzle.

Chris + 1. I believe Mike is correct. Until that picture appears you're not finished. I never bother with the timer. I often get interrupted and there are two sittings.
