Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Nada. It is easy to solve the top two rows by figuring out where the 3 in 38D goes. Ultimately, that gives you the value of P, and that limits the choices for 20D. Figure out where to place the 5 in 35A and it's done.

Don - Once you establish that P=7, you deduce that RSWX are a 7 quad (i.e. 13D is 67 or 76 and 16D is 79 or 97), which is helpful. For 20D, since P=7, U must be either 9 or 5. You can figure out which, and that tells you the orphan squares must be 5s. The rest just falls out.

Don - When you solve the first two rows, you have a 7 in 38D. Since 16A must be 97 or 79, this forces O=9, so P=7.
