Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
really good puzzle, I used orphans but it might be possible without. Actually, this might be one of the best puzzles for a long time.

Nice puzzle; think orphans are integral to (logic) solution. Fairly straightforward after initial discovery in bottom two rows.

Karl, agree, I particularly liked the discovery process in the two bottom rows, thought it was an unusual solution (unless I overcomplicated it)

had to use a guess and orphans

Shabbir, hint:

It revolves around the potential conformations of 5s, 6s and 7s in the four intersection squares formed by 22D, 21D, 24A and 23A. Then work on 23A and 24A to determine which conformation. The latter work seems to be the point where the orphans are needed.

I placed the 4 in 22 down then the 7 and 5 .after that, it solves itself

long time without orphans
using Chris' tip re 5s and 6s, it took me over 9 when I paused the clock
will do it again

4:39 without orphans, but I think the 10A guess is necessary / at least I used that chain in both of my solutions

4:39 probably isn't accurate.
It took me over 14 minutes after eliminating the other possibility for 10A - did anyone else notice there might be 2 solutions with that start?

Good puzzle. Needed orphans and then some thought

No orphans, but took me a bit of time. Good puzzle.

18:27 includes the time it took me to discover the clues in the bottom middle after missing them the first time I pondered on that spot. I used orphans, which came in handy, and also eliminated the 10=3+7 with a chain before I got to where I discovered the way to solve the puzzle. Good puzzle.

Used orphans, difficult and good puzzle.

Good puzzle. Managed to forget 8 as a candidate in the bottom row. Took a long time to figure that out. Brain cramp. Grrr.

Good complicated puzzle!!

Big John, there is a Fleurance in the south of France which I have so far assumed Chris is from.
