Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

difficult but possible, needs orphans.

I couldn't see any other way than to use a chain.

Tried same sort of trick as yesterday's; deducing that sum of first 3 cells of 39D PLUS the upper orphan equal 27 and sum of the last 3 cells of 39D plus the lower orphan equal 26, but that didn't help until I used a small chain to pin down a 4.

tried a few chains until I got the right one that led me all the way.The chain is in the orphans

On 21 top, is 1 and 2.
After on the 10 and 12 and row 13, just one solution,... with orphans, no chains

Got there with orphans and eliminations in the top 2 rows.

Orphans and chains. Long time.

Good puzzle. I quickly deduced the 4 in 39D and then worked out the 4 in 21D using the orphans. Everything then fell into place.

over 24 without orphans - way too many chains

just under 6 with orphans and a chain (56 in 28A)

Tried again. Noticed this time that T=4. Used orphans and hint from my previous comment (that sum of first 3 cells of 39D and upper orphan must equal 27) to get necessary eliminations. No guessing necessary. Neat.
