Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Very hard.Had to try 2 or 4 on cell E.Tried the wrong one first then restarted with the other and everything else fell into place.
One question for experts:the difference between the down cells and the across cells is one.How can we calculate the orphans?

Logic solution, no orphans. A bit tricky perhaps, very enjoyable.

for John - there are four cells which are orphans. J and Q are not in the column totals and M and N are not in the row totals. This makes using the orphans a little more tricky. M+N must be one more than J+Q.
Or to help see it: 121 + M + N = 122 + J + Q

John - there are double orphans. The columns total 121 and the rows total 122, so you know (for the rows and columns to have equal totals) the orphans in the columns must have a total that is one larger than than the total of the row orphans. So J + Q = M + N + 1. (I sometimes get this backwards, but I believe this formula is correct.)

Found a logic solution using the orphans. Not easy, but interesting.

Couldn't tell how but just continued eliminating possibilities and the logical solution appeared.

I guess I missed something important... it seemed very easy, even without orphans.

(so I tried it again, carefully) and it is indeed easy, even without orphans.
