Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Can't find a logic solution... Have to give up. Tips are welcome, but no chains please...

Yoman:
32A=45689, make eliminations
do orphans
now it gets complex.
1's. 4 definites and 1 possible verticals. Same horizontals. So if 5A=14 then 9D=234. Or 5A=23, 9D has no 4 but does have a 56.

4's. 3 definites and 1 possible verticals. 2 definates and 3 possible horizontal.

ignore the above!! start again without mistake ...

now it gets complex.
1's. 4 definites and 1 possible verticals. Same horizontals. So if 5A=14 then 9D=1 with a 56. Or 5A=23, 9D has 234.

case a) 5A=14, 9D=234
horizontal 4's = 3 definites and 2 possibles
verticals = 3 definites

case b) 5A=23, 9D=234
horizontal 4's = 2 definites and 2 possibles
vertical 4's = 4 definites

Therefore, in each case, either the 2 possibles (18A and 19A) are both WITH 4's or both WITHOUT 4's.
I'm hoping that is enough to solve it .....

Haven't seen a way to do it without a chain, though I continue to look. After deducing 2 cells and figuring orphans, I see that 35D must have a 5 in either C or P. If I set P=5, I quickly come to an impossible position (though I can't claim I can do this with a mental chain). Letting C=5, solution More...

OK. Figured out how a shorter, 'mental chain' could get this going. After the obvious and orphans, consider if B != 3. In that case, there would have to be 3s where the two 15D and 16D intersect 19A, 18A, and 16A; which would mean 9D had no 3s, which means first cell of 9D is 6 and 18A can have no 3s. CONTRADICTION. So B=3, and from there everything is solvable.

[Above solution uses no chains as it is pure reasoning and involves no 'guessing'. So, problem solved.]

Well done Karl. Nice solution to difficult problem.

I used orphans and chose 9 in cell G.then everything falls into place

Finally got it with all logic. Great puzzle. One of the toughest yet.

John + 1. I hate guessing. Haven't retraced Karl's steps. Out of time.

I think I tried your guess, John, but probably made a mistake ... do the experts in here peek at the solution to verify their orphan calcs or to check their work occasionally??

Chris, I spent a whole lotta time trying to see how with A=1, B=4 there couldn't be a 1 in 9D. I'm going to start More...

Solved it with all logic but had to use orphans. A fairly unique puzzle with all the low numbers. Placement of 5's was my key.

done without orphans.
if we look where 35 crosies 19, we can see that there mustn't put 7. so 8 or 9 can put only on 19 or 32. that is the key of this puzzle.
