Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

It's nada!

After filling in E and V:

Suppose 6,7 in 24D. Then 21D and 24D have, between them, two 6's and a 7. At most one of these three can be in the top row, at most one in the bottom row, and no others anywhere else --- so there's no room for all of them.

Conclusion: More...

Nada with some help from willo. willo I don't understand why you won't use the uniqueness rule. You're obviously very logical and it seems to me the rule is very logical.

a simple +p (nada for those with better data storage! lol). No logical hoops to figure out or anything special. E=7, V=4. Look at 27A + 21D +24D...D>5 (>=6) and C!=6 thus W=6, X=4D, D=9 solved.

X=4 not X=4D

Paul: I'll be happy to write up an explanation of why I won't use the uniqueness rule. It might take a couple of days. If I post it (or a link to it) in a comment box later this week, will you probably see it?

Fairly easy nada. The uniqueness rule not only works but is necessary to prevent multiple solutions, which are often otherwise available. This puzzle was a perfect example. It places the 5 in 8A.

not too hard nada, don't know about any rules the key was th 1,2's in 21 and 24 don

Nada because
D has to be at least 6789 to construct 24 D
So C!=6, W=6
and 24D=123459 combo and everything solves

I think this is basically Willo’s solution in a roundabout sort of way

willo, I will see it. I look forward to reading it. Thanks.

Mike: You say the uniqueness rule is necessary to prevent multiple solutions, but I believe that I and Aspie have both shown otherwise. No?

Straightforward, with filling in possibilities as usual.
Mike - I think the uniqueness rule does not prove uniqueness, it presumes it. i.e. You eliminate a possibility because it could lead to a non-unique solution. Could being the critical word, as on this site I have not seen a non-unique solution in over 10 years, but that doesn't mean it will never happen.
