Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
After several long extended chain eliminations I finally solved it, but it was very ugly. I'll check back later to see if anyone had better luck and feels like leaving clues.

Completed the grid quicker, but had to go back and verify alternative assumption lead to a contradiction.
The key for me was the 32A. Simple eliminations gave only one possible set of numbers. Determining where the 4 goes makes the rest easy. This is the first puzzle I can recall where More...

I didn't think it was too bad. You know F and Q immediately, which gives you G, V & W and also compels C and K, and limits A & B to two choices, which limits the other orphan to two choices. From there the eliminations are not difficult. A later key was that the 32A and 38A both must have a 9 in one of the first three columns.

Slartibarfast - I believe there is always a unique solution. Whenever I have found multiple solutions, it turned out on closer examination to be a mistake. Indeed, the whole idea of the puzzle is that there is a unique solution.

Thanks Slarti - I had the single solution for 32a, but then I was stuck.

Thanks Mike From LA. I see what I missed. The 9's in DE,HIJ,NOP eliminate the 9's in A&T. After that it's elimination time.

I now agree with Graham. This one is enjoyable.
