Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Possibilities, orphans and a chain.

Don't read this unless you are really stuck.

Paul, notice that the upper right corner, after some elimination, gives a value of '9' for the top two cells of the second column from the left.

Some of yesterday's Hard solutions make no sense.

This one I solved by filling in and then reducing possibilities...
J=5. L=2. R!=4. Q!=4. M!=4. W==8. Now, if M=1 or M=3, then you have a non-unique solution where FGKMYZ are either 1 or 3 or vice versa. Thus M=6 which solves puzzle if you More...

Aspie solution make perfect sense

Easy with orphans but no possibilities:

1) Fill in J, then L, which dictates contents of C and then (by orphans) X, hence T,U,P.

2) 9 from 39 must be in N. No 4 or 7 in Q or R so 4 and 7 in O and S (in some order).

3) Easy to check that whether S is 4 or 7, W can't be 9. More...

thanks me, yours was better than what I had done. Did Aspie or anyone else have a simpler approach?

nada, all step by step in head: find the 2's in 12D, 20D and the 5 in 29D.
Then spot the 56 pair in 39A. Limiting 19D=xx8x.
Now you have seven cells.
Observe the 13 pair circuit, unique rule forces 19D=6481. Fill in all of right side.

Probably several ways to finish, Aspie was:
Unique rule: 15D=xxx7 or xxx9
29D must use three of 6789 etc.
