Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Nada level crazy. No o or p.

Not that hard on the redo. Analyzing locations for 6 and 7 on the left leaves us with a 6 and 7 pair in 34D on the right and the rest immediatelly falls

I don't grasp Sarah's comment.

Using orphans: Orphans determine I and top 16D (to prevent 31A overflow).

Now rule out 5 in B: It would force 5 in G, determining both orphans and forcing 7 in U, leaving no way to fit two 7's in the first two columns.

This determines 20A, More...

A small addition to willo's: putting 7 in X gives uniqueness problem with 13A, so X = 9. That forces 20A to be 479, eliminating the need to rule out 5 in B.
Still +o, -p

Dan: Thank you; I'm sure many will prefer yours to mine. But I am hardcore about not using uniqueness.

Willow - You can't avoid using uniqueness. You do it every time you solve.

Mike: Where in my solution above do you think you see the invocation of a uniqueness assumption?
