Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Had to use orphans, difficult even then

Looked way tough. Too many possible combinations; resorted to a chain.

6:08 without orphans and a simple 'chain'/quick mental elimination. I don't know why it seemed so easy for me.

I did it again and studied it to make sure I hadn't made lucky mistakes. It still came out in a straightforward manner at 7:35, no orphans, no chains. Eliminating possibilities for 26D made 19A and 26A solve out.

Orphans and chains. Not much fun. Orphans weren't a whole lot of help. Like Karl, too many combinations.

I, O have unique answers straight off, eliminating possibilities = N is solved. Once N is solved, B is solved, further eliminating possibilities. Examine 26A and solve X, Y, W then R, S, then Z, U, V, Q, M, L, D, etc. Very easy and straightforward.

Sorry ... this is the first time I've tried to go back to retrace my steps and I was influenced by the knowledge of what the answer was. Solve N and forget the B is solved part, then eliminate possibilities and go to 26A, solve as above then eliminate possibilities and the rest, including B, falls into place.

No orphans. Hard work. Good puzzle.

quite easy really, E!=89 (the usual interactions, 10D and 9D in this case). Quite a bit of work from then on but E is the key
