Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Very easy Nada
free kakuro puzzles | online kakuro puzzles
just like most of the easy puzzles, a chain is required to solve this. even though you can 'see' the solution, you can't make the necessary elimination by using logic/math.

define 'nada' as you wish, but it no longer means anything on this site.

Me, you can deduce A+W+X=8, which puts a 24 or 14 in WX. 24 not possible, solves AWX etc. Nada.

It’s possible to argue sum(AWX)=8 requires a 89-56 pairs chain, in which case, the logic would see AWX=7,8 or 9
7 breaks 14
9 would generate same logic as 8

Which is a chain-less logical nada (I think)

Thanks Aspie. I think I see what you are saying. I stand corrected.

Nada.

I did not get why A+W+X=8. W+X+Y=8 . Used +p

Nada. Nice puzzle. To me, nada just means you solved it without using orphans or possibilities. Have never understood the 'chain' criticism. 1+2=3 is a chain. Every solution has chains. You are doing them mentally in finding solutions, whether you know it or not.

Shabbir, after solving six easy cells, sum(AWX)=8 by adding 11D,27D,12D and subtracting the horizontal parts that you do know (all cells except AWX).

Me, in general I agree about nada. Logic and heuristics only.

Mike, disagree. First off those of us who are quite good at these puzzles More...

Aspie, for the first time I don't agree with you. I have been doing the puzzles on this site for many years. Where is the definition you referred to? I don't see where Mike has violated your descrption of nada. Chains are logic, depending on how you define chains.

Straightforward with orphans. Aspie's logic is too tough for me.

chains=trial&error=what happens if I pick this value (meaning a guess) and I continue filling in values (meaning a chain) based on that 'trial' until I get an error or I solve. Doing 1+2=3 (i.e. math) while filling in this chain, is not what is meant by chain.

Nada was defined several years ago, maybe longer.
