Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Just plain brutal, but doable with everything but pen and paper.

Trial and error. Orphans not all that helpful.

+o+p and a chain or 2. One chain eliminated all but the 7+7 orphan pair. Another chain or two eliminated 5's from 29A (2nd row from bottom) and 22A by magic square of 5's (with 29A bottom row). Might have been one other chain I forget now.

+o +chain +difficulty:
1. Used chain to eliminate 37D containing 346789
2. 25A contains 12589 or 12679
3. If H=6, can't solve 7 in 25A. So identify magic square of 6s in 37D and 39D.
4. If Q=4: can't solve its row. Rest of puzzle easy, starting with Q.

I started by assuming 37D is 256789 and doing the rest Don's way, then came back to eliminate 37D=346789 (i.e. to do Don's first step), but found this hard and boring and gave up (as noted earlier).

another less chainy approach (and -o until last step!)
1. in 37D, find the low cell
a) if 37D contains 256789: G=2
b) if 37D contains 346789: GPS contains 346, CJW contains 789, X=5, DKQ contains 789, HT contains 46, 5th row contains 24689, PS can't contain 3, G=3
2. If H=6, can't More...

G=234
there's a 6x, the 6 can't be in the top of 39D because the forced 36 pair now in 37D screw up against one of the 1's in 3D.
so the 6x is in the bottom half of the puzzle.
here it gets too complex for my little brain and I annoyingly give up, but am pretty sure it ought to be possible now on +p only
