Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

29:02 solved with orphans and chains and dogged determination.

Finally. A few chains, orhpans and lots of eliminations all combined to solve this puppy.
Plum +1

Dogs! I asked for dogs and I got dogs! What a nice surprise. Probably it was the influence of Plum and me who talked about dogged determination and a puppy. What an ugly puzzle. Orphans helped a bit but not right away. Trial and error with chains and eliminations. Not fun. Long time.

Agree. Not hard, just required determination.

Hard enough. Orphans, but no guesses. Takes a while; good puzzle.

Dave +1. Lots of eliminations then orphans but no guesses or chains. Thank heavens the reward wasnt another scary cat!

I think the toughest I have ever solved.

But love the dogs! Dobermanns?

OK. Based on the comments following mine I redid the puzzle and solved without guessing. Thanks for the motivation.

orphans and many chains

And I thot 23:11 was bad! Notice how we're the only ones (brave enough to be) posting out times, Plum!

spoiler alert:
Using orphans, note that E<>6 giving 9 cells.
That's the longest (mental) chain (I didn't do it that way tho).

even so, 8:50 from the saved position - forgot some of the eliminations I saw the 1st time thru!
