Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
5 cells then stuck. Orphans don't help.

You can knock out some nines looking at 25 and 26 across. That gives you three more cells.

assumed a 3 in 22 across last box, then orphans then filled in

+p-o Solved doing a lot of short chain eliminations. Struggled with top row. At the end key was possibilities for 25A and 26A.

+p, nada would be very impressive

Here is the solution:

1. u=9, z=7, t=5, h=4, i=9
2. d=123, l=23, p=123
3. j/k=6789, m=678
4. n=56789, o=6789, q=678
5. since 9 must be in j/k & n/o, g=8, f=9, a=6
6. j/n <>8
7. s=67, r=45
8. w=68
9. either e or y must be 3
if y=3, and w=6, then 6+7+3=16 More...

+p-o The 9 crosses help, and you can prove where the 3 in 38D must go. Still needs chains, but it's logical.

19:16 orphans, no possibilities, lots of thought

It's Logical but still needs Chains??!!??!!

I thought when a Chain is required (guess), Logic goes out the window.

Good puzzle. Possibilities only. David, I think of a chain as more of an 'if, then, else' logical thing, rather than a guess.
