Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

To Slarti, on uniqueness .....

we know these puzzles are unique by design, because of the 'show solution' feature. One solution there only.

although not a proof, but with much data, theee hasn't been a dual seen yet, as far as I know.

some puzzles are only (anecdotally) More...

Start - I agree with Chris. I believe it is a given that each puzzle has only one solution. While it is impossible to 'prove' this, because it is easy to construct a multiple solution puzzle, we have never encountered one on this site. Also, every time I have used the unique solution assumption, it has worked.

Chris/Mike: To me (and of course you're entitled to feel differently), saying 'We know the solution is unique so we can make use of that' is pretty close to 'We know the solution exists, so we don't have to solve the puzzle.'

Willo, alternatively, we can treat the unique rule as one in our armoury of heuristics. For example, we also know that crosses work, and they are dependent on the 'no two same numbers in a row' rule. This is a written rule n the puzzle page, uniqueness is a written rule in the Soduko rules smeared More...

Chris: Agreed, it all comes down to what rules you take as given.

Nada. I agree that the unique solution is a rule that can be relied on in finding a solution. If you find a puzzle with two solutions its design is flawed.
