Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

You are cleverer than me Chris.
I used orphans and still needed a guess.

Well done Chris. I had to resort to orphans. Couldn't see the opening move.

Joe, Paul
27D=6849
quickly solves another five cells (9 in total)
23A=43925 (note 3's cross)
the 5 in 15A has to be in 28D
everything falls out

actually, there's a mistake. I just realised 27D=6759 as well, will try and solve from the resulting less start information ....

Couldn't get past 4 numbers without orphans. Used possibilities and a mental chain.

use orphans;
deduce that 4 & 5 cannot both go in 15A nor in 23A
where they intersect with 27D & 28D
I=2, otherwise 23A would contain 4 & 5
then a mental chain [places the 5 in 28D

I 'knew' what the solution would be at first glance. Didn't use orphans, but did use possibilities and my guess was correct.

Orphans and a little chain. Don't see a solution without orphans.

well, the nearest I can get to logic without orphans is:

first solve 5D=32, 4A=31 and 27D=6xx9

M (last cell in 15A) is either 13 or 45
if M=13 then 23A would be the 219,56,56 solution and 12A fails on the 3's. M=45

Now, N=456 which forces Q=123, so 28D=123589.

23A=23459 and it falls out.
