Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
A little harder - after just a few numbers, I used possibilities to make one elimination with a little thinking, then it fell into place

Last add on quad orphans - often they are not useful. Most puzzles with quads can be solved easily without using orphans. They are a last resort if you are stuck.

Can't be solved without trial an error.

Straightforward. No trial and error needed. Just have to use all the available information and knowledge of possible sums.

I must have spent an hour on 3 or 4 times trying to do it quickly without chains (I did solve it, a couple times, but not fast at all)
6:21 with orphans - it's a pretty east puzzle if you use them!

My New Year's resolution (it's 1-21-12) is to use orphans every time and to use the elimination techniques players like Start and UrBud teach - e.g., when 79 and 89 are in the same row / column, and there can be no more 9s in that row / column!!! This puzzle uses this for 7 and 9 in the top 2 rows (which also means both rows have both 7 & 9, by the way)

rather 'they are useful in this puzzle ...' since puzzles don't solve themselves, people do!
