Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
tricky but do-able

Quite tricky even with orphans - quads needed.

Once the orphans were calculated, the structure of the puzzle was intuitively obvious. Logic combined with experience made it straightforward.

I couldn't find a way without orphans.
With orphans, I found two sets of quads, which left only one possible combination for 24d, and it all fell into place from there.

Joe +1. Found key was eliminating possibilities in 9A.

Here is my no-guessing strategy:

A. General rules for 3 possibilities of sum of 6 cells = 24
1. Contains only 1 cell >=7.
2. Always contains a 4 or 7 (not both!)
3. Always contains 123.

B. After orphan possibilities, bottom 2 rows first:
1. 17D
2. Magic square More...

with orphans; there's a 4's cross and then a 5's cross in 24D and 21D, so 24D=123459 and it all drops out easily

Straightforward with orphans and 4/5 boxes as mentioned, 2018
