Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Interesting, but not too hard.

Pretty simple I thought.

Used orphans and possibilities.
And quickly had H=1.
Both P-Q and U-V had 6 which removed all the other 6's and left very few combinations.

easy, but I think it does need orphans

Greg, did it take orphans to determine that H was 1? I finished the puzzle from there without orphans. The 7's can be approached with the same technique as the 6's

A=9 right off: ABC must have a 9 and A<>8 since B & C cannot have a 2 if A=8.
D&BC quickly follow.
it's also easy to rule out a 6 from Q since 356 must go into CVY.
the rest fall into place.

1. Figured out possibilities for P,Q,U,V.
2. ABC (19A) can not contain a 6.
3. I initially found two possibilities for ABC (19A): 847 and 973.
4. I don't follow how big John eliminated 847 'right off'.
5. Like Greg, orphans mean H=1, then rest of puzzle was easy.
