Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
thought it looked like no nothing, wrong, got 5 cells only.
added possibilities, thought easy, wrong, got only one more cell.
added orphans, that allowed a few eliminations, but still no progress.
tried a simple chain, that turned into a very long chain. Gave up.

29:43. Orphans. Slowly eliminate options on 36A and the one above it. I used the 126, 135, 234 eliminations to figure out which one was right. Very chain, but doable.

Orphans and chains. Not so pleasant.

Gave up. What's the point if you have to resort to chains?

Got it at last.
If the 6 is last but one in 21D, then the conformations are xxxx63 or xxxx64, so 20A=389 or 479 both of which put a 78 pair into 36A. That locates the 9 and its opposite orphan, which breaks against the 5 in 21D. Therefore F=6.
Bit more work and its done ...
That's a chain but describe-able in English (just about) so that was almost a good puzzle.

I think you meant to say 'the second from the last / bottom' 'second to last in 21D', Chris
(to my American English ear your meaning wasn't immediately clear). don't you say something like 'la derniere prochaine' en Francais ?

I looked it up - to (I can't remember exactly what I More...
