Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
I needed both orphans and a chain and even then it wasn't that easy

Managed this without orphans but needed some chains.

I liked it - I needed one bit of logic you might call a chain, but it was pretty simple once you noticed that 24A and 28A had to start with 1-3 for one and 2-4 for the other - then it's a short chain or logic to eliminate one possibility, then straight forward.

orphans and working on 28 across.

Used orphans, but no chains. All logic. Neat puzzle. The key is to identify the possibilities for the first three boxes of both the 24-A and 28-A and compare them. This limits the possibilities for the last three boxes in each so that it can be solved logically.

My solution was essentially the same as Steve's, but I managed to include the fact that the fourth cell of 24 contained a digit less or equal than 4. This helped me to avoid using chains.
