Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
orphans help some, but not completely (unless I missed something). At a minimum, 21D and 24D require 123

-o is possible (I used chains). Number and complexity of chains is greatly reduced if you use orphans.

Nada but took some thought.

needed o&p. nada is very impressive

I can't explain nada, but here is my -o approach:
a) solve 5 in top row.
b) eliminate 9 from two of the remaining top row cells.
c) can solve rest of puzzle -p once 9 in top row is proved.

Chains. Not fun.

another -o approach (after reading Jeff's comments on 1/17/15 hard, which also has 21D and 24D):
1. If YZ=12: can't solve 22A.
2. W<=2 or X<=2. Either way: S>=3, T>=3, G>=3 , H>=3, and at least 3 in 2nd row between 3 and 6.
3. If UV=12: can't solve 12A. So More...

Too many chains / guesses needed for my liking, even with orphans, I give up, 2019
