Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.
Other variations
Still looking for more puzzles? How about a variation on sudoku? Try Wordoku. Wordoku uses letters instead of numbers and has a hidden 9-letter word! For crossword puzzles, try Free Crossword PUzzles. 2 free crosswords (Easy, Hard) daily.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

this one has the nice property that if you use orphans you don't need possibilities

Chris+1, at least for now. Trying to see if it can be done without orphans and without chains.

Personal rant...whether or not you write down possibilities doesn't change the 'logic' required to solve the puzzle. It's just a personal challenge to see if you can keep track of a bunch of More...

With orphans

I used orphans.I don't try to do the puzzles without possibilities as I don't need to prove the capabilities of my memory. Also knowing that Willo and Chris do these puzzles about 10 days in advance, they have plenty of time to figure out different ways to solve the puzzles.

If you feel the need to show your memory to others,
watch the puzzle for a while then close your eyes and figure out each cell then open your eyes and fill each cell as you saw them in your mind.

No orphans. Quite a good puzzle to work through w/out them.

Chris + 2.

Like Chris I went with orphans and w/o possibilities. I think we have our personal preferences for the ways we solve these puzzles and they are supposed to be fun so whatever makes you happy works for me. I like the challenge of trying to do as much in my head as possible. I have nothing but More...

Definitely admirable to do it all in your head. Reminds me of the good ol' days of playing a game of chess without a board.

I don't care what it takes to solve -- except no guessing!

Sandra didn't exactly say she did puzzles that way, Paul. Maybe she does it when she's really bored or her brain is working at its peak.
