Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Didn't use orphans, but needed chains.

I've never played Kakuro where there are spaces that aren't assigned a number (ie the top row second spot and last row third spot). How do you figure this out?

MK, based on the comments so far, solvers have used one or more of the following: orphans (+o), possibilities (+p), unique rule (+u), and/or chains (+c). I'll add a 2nd comment with my approach.

MK, here is how I figured out this puzzle:
1. First 12: solve 6D and both 4As. 3 32D cells >= 6 (JNW). Solve MK, D, 15D, and W.
2. uniqueness (+U): 20D can't contain 8732 (solves 6A)
3. Solve 12A, then rest of puzzle.

MK...

top row 2nd spot is part of the '10' assigned to the top horizontal row of 4 spaces. It is not assign a number in the vertical column direction because it is the only space in that column.

(and similarly for the last row 3rd spot)
